Features

The Birthing Station Simulator is designed to facilitate demonstration and practice of palpating the internal birthing canal, clearly showing the relationship between the fetal head and the ischial spines of the maternal pelvis during the birth process. The ischial spines are of great obstetrical importance: the line drawn between them typically represents the shortest diameter of the pelvic cavity, and they can be readily felt during a vaginal examination to ascertain the level to which the presenting part of the fetus has descended.

The simulator features a fetal head that locks into any one of three stations, representing key stages of fetal descent:

• Minus Two Station: the fetal head lies above the ischial spines
• Zero Station: the fetal head is directly between the ischial spines
• Plus Three Station: the fetal head is below the ischial spines and entering the birth canal

The three lockable stations allow instructors to set specific scenarios for student assessment practice, supporting consistent and repeatable training across all stages of labour progression.
