Realistic and lifelike learning
The ultrasound simulators are constructed from a specialist material that mimics human tissue, both in feel and its highly accurate echogenic properties – how the ultrasound images present.
The venous vascular system inside the BIOTME ultrasound blocks uses a self-developed gel, rather than latex or silicone etc, and this forms the outside of the veins. When the simulator is pressed with the hand or the head of an ultrasound machine, it collapses, then returns to its initial shape when the pressure is relieved. For maximum realism this replicates the occlusion expected when identifying a vein in real tissue.
Other features (the specifics of each model can be found on the individual product pages) include realistic vascular flashback, precise palpable anatomy with landmarks, and key internal landmarks visible under ultrasound. Mock blood can be extracted or liquid injected to practise various techniques.
Ultrasound machine compatibility
As well as teaching invasive techniques in a safely controlled environment, the simulators also give students vital experience in how to use ultrasound machines, including controls, adjustment, and probe dexterity.

Long-lasting and durable for busy training environments
While learning needs to be as realistic as possible, we understand that task trainers for core competencies also need to be cost effective and durable.

This is another benefit of the BIOTME collection. As well as the special long lasting gel used inside the blocks, needle traces on the interventional models disappear within a few days after practise (when used with 23G needles or smaller).
The models are robust and hard-wearing, with self-sealing veins, and can be used time and time again. Veins come pre-filled with mock-blood and these can easily be refilled with our mock blood refill kit to further extend the simulator’s lifespan.
