Venepuncture training arms worse for wear? Don’t worry Sim-Techs, we can recondition them for you!

Warning! This article contains graphic images of used venepuncture training arms. Our arms and blood are incredibly realistic, so you might want to avoid the pictures if you’re squeamish!

When you’re teaching core medical skills such as venepuncture, administering IV injections, intravenous cannulation and withdrawing blood, you need a task trainer that’s built to last.

You might have dozens of students practising on the same venepuncture training arm over and over again, for months on end.

But what then? Time for a new one? Not if you take advantage of our expert repairs service. No matter how worn your arms look after sustained use, we can usually restore them.

Save money with our expert repairs service

As part of our service, we clean, reskin and re-vein your arms to get them looking and working as new – but typically for less than half the price of a new one.

Reconditioning is therefore a budget-friendly – not to mention environmentally-friendly – way to ensure your students continue to receive a high-quality, learning experience, year after year.

And now, with the summer holidays approaching, it’s the perfect time to take stock and see if any venepuncture arm repairs are needed while the students are off.

You can purchase a Skin and Vein set for an Adam,Rouilly and replace it yourself, or if you send us your arms, we can reskin and re-vein them over the summer break. Purchase the kit from us and we will provide the reskinning and re-veining service free of charge, you just need to cover carriage and packaging.

We will also do a thorough check to make sure all the other elements are working and give arms a deep clean so students have pristine task trainers to work on at the start of the new academic year.

A new lease of life for your venepuncture arms

Adam Rouilly UK Sales Co-ordinator, Karen Holyer said: “These task trainers are used to teach core skills that most people going into healthcare or medicine will need to learn. Which means they get used a lot.

“All the arms that we manufacture and supply at Adam,Rouilly are built to last as long as possible.

“You can also keep them in good working order by looking after them, with proper cleaning and regularly flushing the veins through after use. But no matter how robust they are, they will eventually start to show signs of wear and tear, especially if they haven’t been properly maintained. The good news is that you can extend the life even further by repairing and refurbishing them.

“When budgets are tight, you might not be able to keep replenishing your stock with new items, but you can give your existing task trainers a brand new lease of life for less than half the price. Even if you think it’s for the bin, just get in touch with us. You’ll be amazed at what our highly skilled team has been able to restore.”

To show you just how skilled they are, here are some examples of used venepuncture arms that have been sent to us for reskinning and re-veining.

The extent of any repairs will depend on the condition of the arm as we can also provide replacement plugs, bottles, pressure system, as well as the full new skin and vein set.

We will also give them a thorough deep clean. If arms haven’t been flushed through regularly after use, spores of mould can grow inside and this could pose a health and safety hazard for students.

Arms built to last

The Adam,Rouilly venepuncture arm remains one of our best-selling task trainers, since we started making them more than 40 years ago following a request from the Dutch Army. You can read more about its fascinating history in this article .

These realistic arms are cast from life, with the skin moulded from a specially-selected grade of silicone for improved feel, durability and palpation of the veins.

These features, together with accessible dorsal metacarpal, cephalic, median cubital and basilic veins, result in an incredibly realistic sensation when the skin and vein are penetrated.

The closed blood system is clean to use and demonstrates a realistic ‘flashback’ to confirm correct needle placement in the vein before blood is withdrawn.

As with all Adam,Rouilly manufactured items, every stage of the production process is managed by skilled technicians on site.

All the components, including the core, skin, veins, end cap, pressurised bottle system with valves and powdered blood, are assembled individually by hand, by skilled technicians, to create the finished arm.

Alongside the Adam,Rouilly venepuncture arm, we also have a range of similar items that we offer from other trusted suppliers.

These include Nasco Healthcare’s Advanced Venepuncture and Injection Arm, Arterial Puncture Arm and IV Hand. All of these items can be repaired, reskinned and re-veined as part of our repairs service.

We first offered the Nasco Advanced Arm 25 years ago and it remains a firm favourite with its complete venous access for IV therapy and phlebotomy, as well as intramuscular and intradermal injections. The extensive eight-line vascular system allows students to practice venepuncture at all primary and secondary locations.

Customers really appreciate being able to return this arm to us for refurbishment as having replaced the skin and veins on hundreds of arms over the years our proficiency takes away the headache, and the time spent by your team on a maintenance task that we can carry out speedily and cost effectively.

Nasco Healthcare Global Vice President Sales & Marketing, Lee Johnson, said: “Nasco truly values the longstanding relationship we have with Adam,Rouilly and the outstanding after sales service they provide for Nasco products in the United Kingdom.

“There is no doubt that the popularity of our Advanced Venepuncture and Injection Arm is maintained through customers being able to easily extend the useful life of this very popular product.”

Reuse, refurbish, respect

The items we make and sell already have to meet high standards of quality, realism and durability, but we are always looking at how we can do more, especially when it comes to sustainability. We actively consider how the life of a product can be extended even further, whether that’s by repurposing it, repairing it or including replaceable parts and refills.

We also respect your budgets and want to help stretch those further to ensure as many students as possible have access to the best medical training and education through high quality, cost-effective teaching aids.

If you have venepuncture arms, or other task trainers that have seen better days, you may be able to get them repaired rather than buying new. Karen and all the other members of the Sales Team are always happy to offer advice in this area. Please get in touch if you have any questions or need help extending the life of your task trainers.
