Teaching auscultation using simulation
Auscultation – the skill of listening to and interpreting the internal sounds of the body – is a fundamental element of healthcare education.
It’s vital for the detection of a variety of medical conditions including problems with the heart and lungs, such as heart murmurs, valve issues, heart disease, asthma, COPD and pulmonary embolism.
Using models with simulation capabilities allows students to practise identifying a wide variety of heart and lung sounds, helping to prepare them for more real life eventualities.
Versatile new auscultation model launched
A brand new auscultation simulation model has been added to the Adam,Rouilly range to offer healthcare educators a realistic, high-quality, yet competitively-priced option for the teaching of this fundamental skill.
The Auscultation Simulator 2 from Sakamoto Model Corporation provides students with the opportunity to learn and practise with true to life heart and breath sounds.
There are many things we love about this model, but one of its stand-out features is that it can be used with a regular stethoscope.
Auscultation simulators often either have to be used with a specially adapted stethoscope or additional component – or come with a significantly higher price tag.
The way this model is built makes it incredibly versatile, and authentic. Not only can it be used with any regular stethoscope (one is included) the sound in the Auscultation Simulator 2 is referred, which means the stethoscope doesn’t have to be placed on a particular point in order to pick it up, but rather moved to where the sound is more obvious, just as with a real patient.
We only supply products that meet our high standards of quality, realism and durability, and our ranges are carefully designed to offer healthcare trainers and educators the best possible value, in line with their needs and budgets.
We’re therefore honoured to be chosen as the exclusive distributor for Sakamoto and this premier product, the Auscultation Simulator 2, is the perfect addition to our auscultation range.

Auscultation Simulator 2 features and benefits
This table top torso model has seven built-in volume adjustable speakers which provide realistic cardiac and breath sounds of actual patients. It is supplied with an Android tablet for very easy scenario control and comes with a Bluetooth speaker, which when used optionally allows other students or the trainer to listen to the sounds as well.
Sounds are generated from the airway, the left and right lungs, left and right cardiac base, the left edge of the sternum and the cardiac apex.
A range of complicated cases can be recreated from the library of 20 cardiac sounds and 12 breath sounds.
Trainers can quickly and easily adjust both the heart rate and respiratory rate using the app on the included touchscreen tablet to ensure these practise scenarios are as realistic as possible.
Other features include:
- Soft to touch skin and palpable anatomical references such as the sternum
- Heart and breath sounds can be played back via the tablet, the Bluetooth speaker, and directly from the body of the manikin
- The volume of cardiac and breath sounds is also adjustable in each cardiac and pulmonary region, or all regions
- The extensive library of sounds includes normal, innocent murmur, mid-systolic clicks, aortic stenosis, acute mitral insufficiency, nervous dyspnoea, cardia asthma, pulmonary oedema, bronchiolar stenosis and many more
- Settings values for the cardiac and breath sounds can be saved together as a single memory file and up to five memory files can be saved
- Case files presented with points of attention and graphs to aid understanding of the characteristics of each disease

Offering choice and flexibility for auscultation educators
Adam,Rouilly Director of Sales & Marketing, Tariq Shahab, said: “We’re honoured to be the exclusive distributor in the UK and Ireland for Sakamoto Model Corporation, which is a manufacturer of high quality medical training simulators, based in Japan.
“With many different auscultation models on the market now, we want to offer our customers real choices which are suited to their training needs and available funds. We know budgets are tight, so we want to ensure that medical educators have access to the best possible products within their price point.
“It’s also the perfect companion to the Auscultation Bundle in our SimClever range, which can easily and affordably enhance the fidelity of the model even further if needed. The Auscultation Bundle includes bowel sounds and can also be used with standardised patients, which is a great way to level up simulations while helping students get confident and comfortable working with humans.”
