As well as manufacturing products in our purpose-built, UK-based facility, we also work with a handful of carefully-selected suppliers from around the world.
Adam,Rouilly founder, Guy Rouilly, was incredibly selective in the products he offered from other companies, restricting himself to those he valued and trusted, and this has been a guiding principle for more than 100 years.
The foundation of our products has always been quality, realism and durability, whether manufactured directly by Adam,Rouilly, or sourced from other companies, we want to provide the best to our customers.
We have built successful and long-lasting partnerships with a select group of suppliers who share the same values around quality of products, materials and workmanship, as well as supporting advances in medical education through the provision of superior products.
One of those partnerships is with Koken, a world-class specialist in the development and manufacture of silicone materials which replicate the human body.
Unique Koken technology and its incredibly lifelike models
Koken was founded in 1959 and, like Adam,Rouilly, takes great care to ensure that its educational medical models are produced to the highest possible quality.
This Japanese company has developed a great deal of original technology and manufacturing techniques which have contributed to remarkably lifelike models, in terms of their shape, weight and movement.
This attention to quality and detail is also apparent in the feel of the silicone skin, which uses unique synthetic polymer technology developed over 60 years.
Adam,Rouilly first became aware of Koken in the 1990s through then Sales and Marketing Manager, Graham Fowler, who was a member of the Adam,Rouilly team for more than 40 years. Graham was introduced to Koken by Peter Aschbauer, from Austria, who as an early advisor to Koken, forged connections between Japan and potential European distributors. The first Koken products featured in Adam,Rouilly’s 1998 catalogue.
Graham was initially drawn by the high standards of Koken’s products and excellent reputation for contributing to clinical skills training.
Graham said: “From the very start of our relationship we found Koken very easy to sell due to the high quality and realism of their products.
“Koken was ideal for the first Clinical Skills Lab in the UK, created in 1991, at St Bartholomew’s Hospital, ‘Barts’ in London by Professor Jane Daker who at the time was the Senior Lecturer in Clinical Skills. The Barts Lab was influenced by what was happening in the Netherlands, and Koken’s products worked very well for that type of teaching as Clinical Skills became more specialised.
“Since then, thousands of Koken products have been distributed to the Adam,Rouilly client base and the partnership is still going strong more than a quarter of a century later. The successful working relationship has continued for the past 15 years under the leadership of Koken President, Dr Yuzo Tarumi.”
Clinical skills simulators for obstetrics, antenatal examination, birthing and hybrid simulation
The first Koken products distributed through Adam,Rouilly in 1998, included a variety of products from its maternity and baby care range. More specialist procedures such as endoscopy and colonoscopy and wearable simulators for hybrid simulation followed.
Koken products were first exhibited at the 117th Annual Meeting and Conference of the Royal College of Midwives in Glasgow in 1999 where over 300 midwives had the opportunity of seeing the range for the first time.
Visit by Koken representatives to Adam,Rouilly offices September 2024
Visiting the UK for the first time, Koken representatives Narumi Kida and Kenji Oniki recently spent time at the Adam,Rouilly headquarters. This was a great opportunity for the Adam, Rouilly Sales Team to familiarise themselves with new Koken models, including the Wearable Injection Arm Trainer which will soon be available.
Koken products such as the AK043N Maternity Simulation Model, AK026G New Born Baby Female, AK026M New Born Baby Male, AK027 Dorsogluteal Intramuscular Injection Model, AK057 Ventrogluteal Intramuscular Injection Model, AK107 Colonoscopy (Lower GI Endoscopy) Simulator Type II, AK054 Maternity Simulation Jacket, and AK060 Age Simulation Suit, all remain popular due to their continuing improvements in materials and features. Darker skin tone models are gradually being introduced into the collection to allow customers to enhance their diversity offerings.
